Origin has been around for more than 10 years. In that time, millions of players have used the app to gain access to their favorite games. Origin has been so widely used that it’s become an almost inseparable gateway to EA’s biggest titles. The age of Origin, however, is nearing its end as the powerhouse developer has now elected to replace the aging gateway with a new offering; the EA App

EA is committed to making gaming as streamlined and intuitive as possible. In a recent statement, the developer provided a rationale for the exciting new change.

‘We set out to build EA’s next-generation PC game platform – a faster, more reliable, and more streamlined gaming experience – the best possible place for you to experience EA’s incredible games, services, and content.’

The developer asserts that the new app is even easier to use, and you’ll quickly be able to find your favorite games and content. You’ll also have access to automatic background updates and game downloads to ‘ensure that your games are ready to play when you are.’

The replacement is not yet in effect across all devices; you will still be able to access your favorite titles on Origin. EA has also said that it shouldn’t be a hassle transitioning.

‘For our Origin players, we’ve worked hard to make the transition to the EA app as simple as possible. We will be inviting you to make the move soon, and by the time you receive your invite, all your games and content, including games previously installed, will be ready and waiting for you on the EA app. Your local and cloud saves will transfer forward ensuring you can pick up where you left off. Your friends list transfers, too, so you won’t have to worry about remembering all those player IDs.’

The EA App is available for download on supported Windows devices. As of the writing of this article, the app is not yet available for macOS devices, and Origin will remain your primary gateway to the EA experience for the time being.

I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
